Questions about pumps and heaters
Is a variable-speed pump worth changing to?
In this climate it usually is, because the pump runs most of the year. The saving comes from running slowly for longer, so one left on full speed saves very little.
Gas heater or heat pump?
A heat pump costs less to run and takes hours to bring a pool up. Gas costs more per degree and does it quickly. Which suits you depends on whether you swim on a schedule or on a whim.
How long does a salt cell last?
A few years, and then it is a consumable rather than a repair. Cells are sized by volume, and one sized for a smaller pool than yours wears out faster than it should.
