Pool resurfacing
Plaster chalks, quartz thins and pebble loses its grip on the stone. Resurfacing takes the worn finish off, repairs the shell underneath and puts a new one on. What the shell needs is not known until it is empty and dry, which is why the cost page gives a range rather than a price.

Cracks and hollow spots only show on a dry shell, so anything found changes the number before work starts.

The worn surface comes back to sound concrete, with a bond coat where the shell needs one.

Questions before you drain a pool
How long is the pool out of use?
About two weeks. Three to five days of that is the work and the rest is filling, brushing and getting the chemistry right before anybody swims.
Can it be done without draining the pool?
No. A new finish has to bond to a dry shell, and the repairs it needs are not visible until the water is gone.
How long should a finish last?
Plaster is the shortest of the three and pebble the longest. Water chemistry moves that further than the choice of finish does, and a surface left out of balance will not reach the bottom of its range.
