Pool remodels
A remodel changes what the pool is rather than what it is coated in. A sun shelf, steps, a bench cut into a wall, lighting that was never there, or a different shape altogether. It is structural work, so it costs more than a resurface and it takes longer.

Settle what is changing
A shelf and a new shape are different jobs at different prices, so this is settled before anything is drained.

Break out and form
New shapes are cut into the existing shell and formed up.

Shoot the new concrete
The new work is tied into the old shell so the two move together and never crack at the joint.

Plumbing and lighting
Returns, drains and lights go in while the shell is open, not after the finish.

Finish the whole pool
The whole pool gets a new finish so it reads as one pool, not a patch.

Questions before you change the shape
Can a sun shelf be added to a pool that does not have one?
Usually. The shelf is cut into the existing shell and tied to it. What decides it is the shape of the shallow end and how much of it you are willing to give up.
Does a remodel mean resurfacing as well?
Yes, always. New concrete and an old finish will never read as one pool, so the finish goes on the whole shell. That is already inside the remodel number.
How much longer does it take than a resurface?
Roughly twice as long, and most of the extra is curing rather than crew on site. Concrete sets to its own timetable and there is no paying to speed it up.
